I’ve ventured into at-home workouts from time to time. Generally, it’s when I have a fitness goal I’m so revved up to meet that I turn every spare minute into an opportunity for a workout. Most recently, it has been because of COVID-19 and quarantine. But every time I clear some space and bring out my 5 lb weights and my yoga mat, I can’t help but wonder. Is this actually working?
Like any other woman ever who is trying to lose weight or tone up, I’ve searched countless befores and afters on the internet for inspiration. If I have learned anything, it is that some women certainly do make significant progress working out at home. But is that true for everyone?
There is a wonderful, wonderful thing called YouTube, which I’m sure you’re aware of. YouTube has changed the world of working out for many of us, by bringing your very own personal trainer right into your living room (or wherever it is you workout). Plus, the wide variety of workouts are incredible. Only have 15 minutes for a workout? There are workouts for that. Don’t have any equipment whatsoever? There’s a workout for that.
For me, personally, I enjoy going to the gym (I don’t do that now, but it is my preference). I love the separation of space. I only work in my home office for instance, and never bring my work into the living room or my bedroom. I don’t have a room that is purely a workout space, which is challenging for me. But for many other people, the sheer convenience of working out at home outweighs any and all negatives. There are many people who were never fans of gyms in the first place, making working out at home ideal for them, too.
Whether you are venturing into at-home workouts out of sheer necessity, or because you think you’d like it more, at-home workouts are just as effective as any other workout. As long as you are consistent with your diet and exercise, you will see results. Consistency is the key to any workout or weight loss plan.
Why is Consistency Important?
Finding - and sticking - to a regular exercise routine will help maintain peak levels of mental and physical health. Your physical abilities will develop gradually and consistently, and your mental health will thank you for the reduced stress levels. And who doesn’t love a good endorphin rush?
